Usha Soolapani talks zero waste, carbon neutral and more
Usha Soolapani talks about her journey in environmental education, advocacy and justice starting from her college days, founding Thanal, securing a ban on endosulfan, opposing incineration, particularly of plastic, piloting zero waste systems in Kovalam, Kerala, and working with the state govt to advance policies and protocols that reduce waste.
She also talks about the role of AID in supporting Thanal’s work over the years, how they grew, and how they draw energy and inspiration from other organizations and movements at gatherings like the Kisan Swaraj Sammelan, where this conversation took place.
AID has supported Thanal’s work in zero waste and more recently in carbon neutral work in Meenangadi , Wayanad, India’s first local-level initiative aimed at achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
