AID to reach 1200 villages of Tamil Nadu
May 4, 2020
Dear friends — This is an update from Dr Balaji Sampath on our work in Tamil Nadu.
AID-India has swung into action in Tamil Nadu reaching 1200 villages in 15 districts. Grocery supply to COVID impacted families in 50 villages and needy families in Chennai has started (with 393 COVID positive families in last 3 days primarily from the villages) and we will reach more villages soon. N95 masks are also being given to needy hospitals in Chennai.
A difference in the distribution of food between this year’s COVID Tsunami and post last year’s lockdown is that since these families are COVID affected the groceries are left at the door step and the family member comes and collects it. This is to safeguard the volunteers distributing the food to impacted families. We didnt need to use such strong distancing measures last year to reach poor families that were impacted by lockdown.
