Students dig history in Mumbai public schools
Remember your history class in school? Did you debate social issues? Did you talk about your life at home? Did you explore the politics of every day life? Did you share your hopes and dreams for social change?
Students in Mumbai public schools students do all of these and more using the Sangati curriculum developed by Avehi Abacus, with support from AID.
Taking on such questions as:
“What have been the conventional roles expected of men and women?”
“Have you ever experienced or witnessed prejudice based on caste?
“How has society changed?”
“How does education play a role in changing society?”
“Was Dronacharya a great teacher?” (क्या द्रोणाचार्य महान गुरु थे?).
“In Eklavya’s place, if asked for such a guru-dakshina, what would you do?”
See them tackle a couple of these in this video from some classroom discussions in a school in Sion.
