Let’s hear from our partner Yugajyoti in Koraput, Odisha.
Food and ration supplies: Last week, Yugajyoti distributed rice and dal 50 Adivasi & Dalit families in Bopariguda block. They also gave 25kg rice and 5kg daal to 25 migrant labourers stranded in Jeypore, from Murshidabad. Now the government has made arrangements for giving some cooked meals. Landless family and daily wage labourers are facing food shortages. People growing vegetables cannot go out to sell and hence are losing their livelihood. Yugajyoti has identified 200 families, mostly without ration cards in 5 Gram Panchayats. They are planning to give 10kg rice,2kg dal, 5kg potatoes and 500ml oil. Many people do not have ration cards, so they talked to the Block Development Officer to get temporary ration cards to people without cards.

Medical preparations: Yugajyoti has been raising awareness on physical distancing and hand washing in the villages. They are also encouraging people who have migrated back to keep themselves a little isolated from the community. They sent a memorandum to the Chief District Medical Officer asking them about testing facilities for COVID-19 and quarantine. Now Jeypore has 50 beds for quarantine, with 50 more being prepared- but no ventilators. They have also appealed for some specialists.
