Quiet or loud, love is love

সেই মেয়েদুটি যারা নন্দীগ্রামে গলায় ফাঁস লাগিয়ে ঝুলে পড়েছিল, , সেই মেয়েদুটি যারা ঝাঁপ দিয়েছিল সবরমতীতে, সেই  ছেলেটি যার বিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছিল জোর করে, সেই ছেলে যে প্রকাশ্যে প্রেমিকের হাত ধরতে ভয় পায়, সেই মেয়ে যাকে ‘নারী’ করে তুলতে ধর্ষণ করেছিল কাকা বা দাদা, সেই বালক বা বালিকা যে বয়ঃসন্ধিতে নিজের অন্য যৌন ইচ্ছা চিনতে পেয়ে লজ্জায় কুঁকড়ে যাচ্ছে, সেই অধ্যাপক যাঁর চাকরি গিয়েছিল আলিগড়ে আর তারপর মারা গেছিলেন রহস্যজনক ভাবে- তারা/তাঁরা প্রত্যেকে ‘বিপ্লবী’ নয়/ নন, স্বভাবত৷  সকলে হয়ত সাহস করে রামধনু মিছিলে হাঁটতে পারেনি বা পারেননি৷ কেউ কেউ  প্রেমকে বরণ করতে চেয়েছিলেন  নিভৃতে, রাজপথে নয়। তাঁরা মরে যান, হতাশায় তলিয়ে যান৷

আবার কেউ কেউ আছেন, প্রয়োজনীয় প্রতিরোধ যাঁদের বড় রুক্ষ্ম,উগ্র, চিৎকৃত করে ছেড়েছে৷ এমনকি প্রেমের প্রকাশেও।  অথচ ভালোবাসা তো সবচেয়ে কোমল আশ্রয়। পাখির বুকের মতো ওম তার৷ তাঁদের ভালোবাসা স্বাভাবিকত্বের স্বীকৃতি পেলে সেই কোমলতার মানে তাঁরাও বুঝবেন।

আজ তাঁদের সবার জয়ের দিন। ৩৭৭ ধারা সম্পর্কে এর চেয়ে ভালো রায় হতে পারত না। সংবিধান বৈষম্য শেখায় না- যাপনে না, আচরণে না, অধিকারে না, প্রেমেও না। ভালোবাসার দিনে ভালোবাসা নেবেন জাস্টিস দীপক মিশ্র।

The two girls who hanged themselves, the two girls who jumped into the Sabarmati, the boy who was forced to marry, the man who is afraid of holding the hand of his partner in public, the tom-boy who was raped by her uncle and brother to make her a real woman, those boys and girls who shy away from the world on recognizing their ‘other’ sexualities at puberty, the professor from Aligarh who lost his job and died mysteriously – not everyone of them was a rebel. They might not have marched in the rainbow parade. Some of them may have wanted to nurture their  love away from the public eye. Many of them have died or given up.

Yet others have aggressively protested and shouted at the top of their voice and expressed their love in public. But love is the sweetest refuge. Warm like the breast of a little bird. When their love will be accepted as natural, they too will feel that warmth.

Today is a victory for all of them. There could not have been a better verdict on Sec 377. The Constitution doesn’t advocate discrimination between lives, rights or expression of love. My love for Justice Dipak Mishra, on this day of love.
