CEM will work with hospitals to collect data and back up the awareness messages with local health advisories and concrete recommendations, to be communicated via videos, banners and posters all in the local language. Through this process they will build a citizens network that will look into violations, regulatory oversights.
Planning to work with a children’s hospital in Korba, where there is a coal powered plant.
As most of the patients coming to the PGI hospital are farmers, when they interact with patients to talk about health impacts of pollution, the impacts of stubble burning will also come up. This will dovetail with the work that Bono plans to do with Khethi Virasat Mission.
Another component is Media training – so that journalists report accurately on health. Understand terminology. Sometimes the reporting becomes very shallow, lacks nuance. We evaluate the program in the last quarter and at that point, we would also like to do a conference with other hospitals and govt doctors, bring them up to speed on the research that we have done and how other centers can replicate.
Current status – Once approvals are complete from the hospital side, we will raise required resources. Some organizations have already committed.
