Savera Foundation takes vaccine registration to the community’s door
Four villagers from a remote area of Giridih district were going door to door talking about wearing masks, removing the fatal fear around COVID, maintaining physical distance. These 4 villagers had been trained as health workers in Dec 2020 when AID volunteers and Savera Foundation decided to work against the high incidence of TB in the area.
These health workers removed the apprehensions against vaccinations by speaking in Santhali and sometimes using a hand made chart. When the Savera team felt that there was a level of comfort they started helping villagers register at the 2 help centers they had started at the onset of the 2nd wave. For the villages further away, the Savera team went to the village and started registering people for vaccination.
A total of 120 people (out of 1500 households) in the Thangsidih Panchayat have registered, out of which 60 people have received the vaccine. The PHC is 40 Kms away from the village and poses a challenge for the people to travel. Members of the Savera team will also be present at the PHC in Tisri to help the villagers feel comfortable.
Once again, community based effort has shown us the path forward. Support this critical effort!
