While doing relief work nearby, an AID-India team member came to know of over 100 people from Jharkhand stranded in Kannathur Market (Tamil Nadu) at the construction site where they had been working for daily wages. India’s lockdown efforts to contain COVID-19 left them suddenly without work, wages, provisions, or any way to get home. AID-India has provided them food rations that should last a week. The workers also wanted to send a message to the Jharkhand govt to find some way for them to get back home. Please see the video of their message.
Assalam Aleikum. (Peace be Upon You)
We are from Godda District, Jharkhand.
We would like to ask Dipika Pandey (MLA) to please give us a way to return home to our village. We are stuck in Kannathur Market. We have no place to stay or food to eat. We are in great trouble. We appeal to the Jharkhand government to urgently give us a way to return home to our Village Dogachi (spelling?), Thana -Thakurgangti, Godda District – Meharama.
We are from one village, one district and we have been in great difficulty here since 10-15 days without rations, many of us falling ill due to lack of food. Our bodies are hurting. We are in great distress.
We also do not know the local language and have trouble interacting with local people. Please help us!
