This is a message from Yogini Dhalke, working in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra with our partner SRUJAN: On April 12 a team of 3 vehicles and 8 people distributed food kits to 150 person in 9 villages. They are distributing food kits to the most vulnerable single and widowed women.
“There are around 5 to 9 % of the population who do not have ration card. They have not received any support from the government food distribution system. Their situation is worst as there is absolutely no way they can survive without assistance. We are talking to many individuals in the villages, the sarpanch, ASHA, anganwadi sevika etc. … from the day lockdown began we concentrated only on vulnerable women families. Every day we are meeting equal number of families in equally bad conditions.
“We are also sharing with all the villages about the schemes announced by PM and CM. People don’t know whether they have received (Rs) 500 or 1000 or 2000 in their accounts as banks are kilometres away from them and thus inaccessible. There are orphans, there are handicapped people, care taker families of people with mental illness, very old men and women living alone without family support. At times we had to say no to these people because our resources are limited.”
