Overwork, safety risk, pay cuts and pressure from management are a few of the challenges nurses in Maharashtra faced during the COVID-19 epidemic, according to rapid assessment conducted by SATHI in Sept-Oct 2020. SATHI surveyed nurses and conducted follow up interviews with representatives of nurses’ associations and government officials in charge of recruitment.
SATHI has concluded that “nurses in both the public and private sectors have faced a wide range of problems, which require policy solutions and actions to be taken urgently by the Government.”

AID supports SATHI’s work in building capacity of communities to monitor health services, hold them accountable and participate in planning. During the COVID-19 pandemic, AID has supported SATHI’s hospital-based helpdesks which have provided life-saving guidance to patients in time of need.
