Sarika | Uttar Pradesh

I live in Behra village in Kerakat block of Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, and study in class 10th in Sukhmay Inter College, which is 5 kilometers (3 miles) away. I used to walk to and from school which made me tired. My parents are laborers, and were not in a position to buy me a bicycle. I help in household chores as well, due to which I sometimes used to reach school late. On reaching late, I often used to get scolded by the teacher in front of everyone in the class, which was very embarrassing. Sometimes I used to wonder how would I be able to complete my further studies. Then with the help of AID, I got a bicycle, due to which now I am able to go to school on time and have more confidence about completing my studies and about my future.

Hema | Tamil Nadu

LAST YEAR: (see first video in Tamil)
Translation: I am Hema from Kondam Narikoravar village. I am studying in 9th std. Due to circumstances in the family, I am unable to go to school. I wish to go back to it but it is 3 Kms away. If I receive some help to get a bicycle, I will be able to pursue my studies further.

THIS YEAR: AID-India provided her tuition and encouragement, and a cycle. She began pedaling to school, has passed 10th this year, and now rides to college where she is studying to become a nurse. (see second video with English subtitles).

Arti | Bihar

A 20 year old woman from Sheherpura village in Dandkhora block, Katihar district, Bihar; Arti has turned her humble cycle into a powerful tool of change. Not only does it help her get to her college on time, it also carries her—along with a friend—to far-off villages where she runs vibrant children’s clubs. Through non-competitive games, songs, and progressive slogans, she introduces young people to the values enshrined in the Constitution. Children affectionately call her “khel waali Didi” (sister who plays games) and rush to her shouting, “Zindabad! Chalo masti karte hain!” (Zindabad! Let’s have fun!) the moment they see her cycle. Arti now runs seven such clubs in seven villages, visiting each two to three times a month. Her cycle has become a symbol of joy, learning, and the persistent spread of constitutional values in rural Bihar.

Dipali | Assam

After receiving the bicycle, it has become easier to go to work. I can now design clothes myself and even if it’s in small quantities, I am able to carry them on the bicycle and sell them in the village. It has been very beneficial. Golaghat, Assam.

Hazrat | Bihar

Hazrat Khatoon finds quiet joy and freedom in cycling through the fields and narrow paths of her village. On her cycle, she feels the wind in her hair, the rhythm of the earth under her wheels, and a lightness in her chest that only comes from moving freely through open spaces. For her, it’s not always about reaching somewhere—it’s about the simple pleasure of riding for the sake of riding. Each turn of the pedal brings a sense of peace and power, a moment of solitude and connection with the world around her. In the gentle hum of her cycle, Hazrat discovers a freedom that is hers alone.
