Update from BTS: 5th June

BTS is working in 2 Gram Panchayats each of Kultali and Patharpratima blocks. In total 16 villages in these two blocks have been affected severely.

The water level has receded and some people are starting to return home to rebuild them and to make them habitable. For some, it will be sometime before they can return. Such people are continuing to live in the school buildings. Many homes have to be rebuilt.

"For many families, all their belongings have been washed away. Not even a mosquito net is remaining," said Susanta from BTS.

Rebuilding the lives of such families is a big challenge and maybe we can all share a little bit of the burden.

The K-Plot GP under Patharpratima block is facing a severe shortage of drinking water. Water coming out of the tubewells is yellow like the river water.

Snake bite death: A seven year old boy died of snake bite in Baikanthapur Gram Panchayat on June 4th. The Primary Healthcare Centre is about 3 hours away by road. The boy died on the way to the PHC in an ambulance maintained by BTS.

The Mandra Lions Club team is on the way to Gosaba. We are expecting an update from them tomorrow.
