Report from Wohab of SHIS

Dear All,

AFTERMATH OF CYCLONE “AILA”

Behind crushing effect of cyclone ‘Aila’, the situation is still long ways to become normalize. Millions of lost their houses, thousands are missing and near about hundreds are dead, the condition is becoming more critical due to the onset of Monsoon in the Gangetic belt and frequent tidal surge. Five days has passed by, but the magnitude of the devastation is yet to subsidized. But the worst of all that without adequate supply of food, water and medical support, an epidemic might set in.

Though all agencies like Govt. Administration, Army, Civil Societies viz., SHIS, local Community Based Organisation, Clubs, Bazar Samity (Association), Institution, Faith Based Organisation viz., Nimpith Ramkrishna Mission & Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Furfura Sharif, Hari Sabha, individuals, Banks viz., State Bank of India, Foreign Agencies viz., UNICEF, Travel Agencies viz., Travel Agents Association of Bengal, all known Political Parties, etc. have all jumped into the rescue, relief and rehabilitation process. But due to grueling nature of the affected area, the processes are been hampered and delayed. Furthermore, inadequacies of the supplied material irrespective of any agencies are also affecting serious problems to reach out for the unreached. People are waiting for handful of puffed rice and water. Even if, many NGOs like SHIS, TSRD, SPAR, Sabuj Sangha have pressed in with whatever they could collect, the situation is still tends to become grim.

Now in this drastic situation, SHIS along with Govt. agencies viz., Health Dept., Forest Dept. reaching out to the unreached with Doctors, Paramedical Staff, Health Visitors for Medical Aid, Food and Water with its 4 Mobile Boat Dispensaries, 1 Speed Boat, 2 Ambulances, etc.

SHIS with local administration like BDOs, BMOHs, Panchayat Savapati, Prodhan, alongwith district administration like CMOH, Forest Administration like Rangers, Bit Officer, etc. keeping close liaison and observation for updating of the situation and collaborating to help the cyclone victim. SHIS is regularly conducting clinics, distributing food and water, etc. along with helping the administration to start desalinization process of ponds and installation of tarpaulins. Although having fraction of supplies, SHIS is yet to reach its goal.

SHIS is thankful that despite the worldwide recession, many agencies like UNICEF, Govt., Forest Dept., Individuals have generously came forward to help us to help the most unfortunate victims.

Following are the areas where SHIS is currently conducting clinics with free medicines every day besides providing water and food; (coloured area is where SHIS is conducting clinics)
