See CNN/IBN Video of Dr Sen's release. May 25: Supreme Court has granted bail for Dr Binayak Sen, a noted doctor and human rights activist working in tribal regions of Chattitisgarh. The judges, echoed the sentiment of the
campaign across India and the world to get Dr Binayak Sen free, that
two years was too much. On May 4, former law minister Ram Jethmalani, appearing for Binayak
Sen, had contended that despite the case against him having been
demolished in a trial court, the Chhattisgarh High Court was not
entertaining his bail plea. Dr Sen had been held without bail for 2 years on false charges to prevent him and his group
People's Union for Civil Liberties from raising human rights issues on Salwa Judum -- state armed vigilante group. Over the two years, in solidarity with Raipur Satyagraha, AID volunteers have protested in several cities of the US in Boston, Dallas, Wahington DC, San Francisco, Philadelphia, etc. This is a step in the right direction for the Indian justice system, and we applaud the verdict.
