“Extending Humanitarian Support to the Internally Displaced People of Chhattisgarh who fled to Andhra Borders”

Progress Report: January 2009 to March 2009

Implementing agency: Agriculture and Social Development Society (ASDS),
Rekhapally, Khammam district

 

Background:
The tribals of southern Chhattisgarh experienced severe forms of violence in the conflict between the state and the maoists/ naxals. They fled to the border areas of Andhra Pradesh and have been are living under precarious conditions with no land to cultivate no work to do, and they are denied all kinds of civic amenities like drinking water, health and education services, by the state of Andhra Pradesh.


The objective for immediate intervention is to extend the health, education and other humanitarian support to the victims of conflict and fled to Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, and the long term objective is to facilitate a process to empower the community to assert their social, economic and cultural rights. Creating conducive environment to facilitate a secure and safe return to their places would be one of the long term goals.


Operational Areas:

The partners could identify 173 settlements in 19 mandals of Khammam district and the
coverage area of the project was classified into:
