Photographer: Somnath Mukherji

Appana, a gifted potter who is part of the AID Orissa family. He found a torn piece of paper and was inspired by a picture on it, similar to the one he is creating in the picture.
He then improvised on it and literally produced this on the fly.

Children of the Gothi Koya adivasi community fetch water using a handpump installed by Agricultural and Social Development Society.  These adivasis fled from violence in Chattisgarh and are now internally dispaced persons (IDPs) taking refuge in the forests of Khammam district, AP.  AID is supporting relief measures to ensure that children receive minimum nutrition and safe drinking water while the communities apply for government recognition and services.
