Call for Volunteers by JSS
Village Level Healthworker in Chhattisgarh Our long time partners from Jan Swasthya Sahayog have sent an appeal for volunteers who can spend anywhere between 3 to 6 months in the rural hospital in Ganiyari near Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh and the surrounding villages. Experiences in JSS have been life transforming for many who have visited/stayed there. If you interested please contact Vasu (vasusemailid [at] gmail [dot] com).

From JSS:
There are three areas of work here which have acquired a significant size, and thus would be benefitted with the presence of someone who is interested in pro- people work, and is deeply interested in work at the community level.

First, our work in under 3 year old child nutrition and development. While we are already seeing that food intakes among children are increasing with a possible improvement in their nutrition status in the Phulwaris, we want to add focus on early child development through non formal educational inputs for them. If we have a person who would document and collate culturally appropriate educational material, help start using them first in a few crèches and then upscale it in all crèches, this would be a substantial help for the programme. Naturally, this would require someone to spend at least three months at least , although ideally it would take at least six months.

Second, we are planning to focus on improving maternal care services in our area using various community and panchayat level interventions. Focussing on reducing childhood marriage, involving gram Sabha in maternal nutrition , improving PDS and ICDS services for the mother, auditing maternal deaths and near deaths are some of these interventions that we will add to the existing service provision that we are engaged in. Anyone who is specifically interested in this area of work is welcome. Again the minimum duration that any volunteer should come for to find it useful is three months, longer the better. Again, the knowledge of an Indian language, preferably Hindi will be essential for this, and for the crèches.

Third, our work in developing electronic medical record systems (EMR) and digitising medical information. We need someone to be with us , who is knowledgable about IT and would like to facilitate the implementation of a complex intervention like this in a rural area. Again, three months is minimum, though a little less may still be OK
