Flood in OrissaSupported by: AID EB (All India Relief Fund)

Amount: $2000

Mahanadi Delta of Orissa has been affected by seasonal floods and this project is to provide immediate relief. In July 2011, people of Orissa witnessed unprecedented flooding of Daya and Luna rivers in around 19 districts that endangered lives of lakhs of people. AID responded immediately to provide relief materials in five districts (Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur).

AID  in collaboration with many civil society organizations has opened a control room to respond better to the relief needs of the affected villages. AID-Orissa volunteers identified 5 most vulnerable areas and established a base camp to coordinate the response program.

Truck loads of relief materials like Chuda, puffed rice, biscuit, medicine were sent to around 25 villages as initial relief material.

AID volunteers and activists from other organizations are seeking further support to ensure long term rehabilitation of the affected villages by reconstruction of homes, provide education to the children and medical support.
