Support for priority medical equipment needs at Jan Swasthya Sahyog (JSS) About 1500 villages inhabited by 300,000 people are directly impacted by JSS's work. JSS was founded by a group of health professionals in 1998 and is committed to developing a low-cost and effective health program that provides both preventive and curative services in the tribal and rural areas of Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh state in central India. This project funds priority medical equipment for JSS. The three outpatient clinics (that serve remote parts of the district) will get their own microscopes which hitherto had to be carried from the Ganiyari campus (20 kms from Bilaspur) each time. The microscopes are used to diagnose blood smears for infectious diseases like malaria. Apart from the microscopes, the JSS will use the funds to replace their hematology analyzer, an instrument that performs automated counts of various blood cell types. They also plan to purchase a 'laminar flow hood' for their microbiology tests, which is a wall unit that will enable the laboratory personnel to work in a safe and sterilized environment.
