Bombay Municipal Corporation has (partly) outlawed plastic bags (again - remember 2005 , 2001 … and before?).

10 years ago at the Pune railway ticket counter, I saw a sign that said:  ban or no ban, as long as customers expect and accept plastic bags, the vendors will continue providing them for fear of losing customers.  SO it our duty as citizens to refuse plastic bags even if offered.   To promote the idea of “Plastic-Free Shopping Trip” (PPST) seriously, Jivika proudly presents these lightweight grocery bags.

While most people own a number of larger bags and haven’t completely lost the habit of taking them to the market, they still end up using plastic bags for holding the individual vegetables and fruits.  With these bags, in 1kg and 2 kg sizes, we can completely avoid bringing plastic bag home when we go out shopping.   They are handloomed, handspun and also screenprinted by hand in Pondur and Santakavita mandals (AP)

These bags make it easy to bag each vegetable and one can hang them for easy storage or put them in the fridge - the cloth bags give breathing room to the veggies and also allows fruits to ripen naturally in the cozy shade of the bag.
