Relief and Rehabilitation

A small thrilling anecdote: On our 1st trip to flood-affected villages near Nagaladinne, our truck stopped as we reached the first village where we were going to distribute relief material. Two college kids on a bike stopped next to our truck and called out. They were asking whether we were from the AID team and whether they can speak to Kiran. And we had thought that we were in the middle of nowhere in remote villages cut off due to floods, 50 km from the nearest big town! It turned out that they were from a youth group, Jagruti from a village just 4 km away. Mohan is studying CA in Chennai, and had just come to the village that morning. On the previous day, he was looking on the web for any group bringing medicines, and he came across AID website which said that Kiran Vissa is going to Nagaladinne area with blankets, sarees and medicines.
So he literally tracked us based on that information. Now, he is a valuable resource for us in that Mandal. He spent 10 days with us helping in relief work and has decided to spend 4 months in the villages on rehab work from Nov 15th (when he is done with his CA intermediate exams).
Kudos to the web team on the excellent work in keeping things up to date. |
