As you know from our previous reports, a high level "jaanch" (audit) team was sent by the Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department, Bihar, to investigate into the lapses in NREGA in Araria. The "jaanch" team submitted its report in April based on which the state administration took cognizance of the lapses and directed the DM, Araria to take appropriate action on senior officials responsible.

However the district administration did not initiate action as per the rules of the act. Recently we learnt that the secretariat has sent another letter asking DM Araria to dismiss the program officer and concerned Rozgar Sevaks.
Though the Abhiyan does not favour dismissal of all Rozgar Sevaks, the decision is in the right direction for making the system accountable.
