Agriculture and the population dependent on it is facing a severe crisis in India today. Two hundred and fifty thousand farmers’ suicides between 1997 to 2007, thousands being forced out of agriculture are but a few symptoms of the agrarian crisis.

At the heart of AID’s work in agriculture is its concern with the livelihood of the small and marginal farmers, the landless; the adverse effect of chemical farming on health and environment.

AID works with its partners in low external input sustainable organic agriculture, reclaiming degraded land, retaining the control of seeds by the farming communities and making farming remunerative for the marginal farmer. [Learn more]
